UBa Pro Chancellor joins in the sporting galore
Dschang,UDs/SIC-27/04/25.Prof Sammy BEBAN CHUMBOW, The Pro Chancellor of the University of Bamenda and president of the Cameroon Academy of sciences was part of the delegation from the University of Bamenda to partake in the first ever Zonal University Championship which brought together 5 competing institutions. Being a former Rector as well Council chair of the University of Dschang, his unflinching support to sports development has never been questioned. At the Catapult stadium of the University of Dschang during a highly disputed match between the UDs and UBa male football teams the president of the council of UBa shares his appraisal of the 1st ever Edition of the CHAZU to members of the UDs communication unit .
« First of all, let me say that the CHAZU, the Zonal champion of the university games is good development in the sense that it does allow participation very especially with respect to the private institutes of higher education which were virtually left out with only major institutions possessing a lot of resources could move to the university games.
This opportunity of the Zonal competition allow the small institutes to participate so that the country can benefit from their participation to harvest athletes. It is true that in this initial foundation championship the participation seems quite low especially here in the Zone D, because many of the private higher institutes are not yet participating but already, I think this is a very good start.
The games have been properly organized, UDs deserves congratulations for the take-off of the Zonal games and the participation of UBa and other institutions have been good. So that I think that the institutions are giving all their best, I took part in the opening ceremony and saw their participation. I have today witnessed athletics and the football match. I think the competition is keen and there is evidence that the future holds a lot of promise for the development of sports in this country with the CHAZU and FINAJU in place. »
As the games unfold the different institution’s dignitaries are behind their teams to stimulate and galvanize their effort in a bid to succeed .This motivation is noticeable in the encouraging and psychologically uplifting the role they play in team sport.
