2016/2017 academic year reopens in grandeur
Dschang-SIC/UDs 11/11/16. The University community and public witnessed with amazement the 2ndedition of the solemn reopening ceremony of the 2016/2017 academic year of the University of Dschang under the administration of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Tsafack Roger Nanfosso on the 11th of November 2016 at the Amphi 1000. The ceremony which was marked by the presence of the Minister of Higher Education, represented by the Inspector General for Service at the Ministry among other key state, religious, and traditional dignitaries graced the occasion. The event which started with a procession of lecturers of different academic ranks and freshmen to the conference Hall was followed by an ecumenical prayer which centered on love, the fear of God and the pursuit for excellence, ushered in the word of the Mayor of the town who welcomed all and assured the freshmen of a pleasant stay in the peaceful town. The Mayor represented by Prof Temgua Emile lauded the initiative of the ceremony by the Vice Chancellor and stated that the platform will encourage harmony in community. Members of the Chancellery Council were then presented to the freshmen as they students later took an oath of commitment geared towards respecting the principles of the University.
The presentation of certain academic programmes, prospects and projections by the Deans of the Faculties of Letters and Social Sciences, Economics and Management Sciences, Law and Political Science, and Sciences followed suit as well as the presentation of the new PhD holders of the University by the DAAC/UDs, Prof Kamgang Kabeyene Beyala Veronique. The Director later presented a distinction of excellence for the best PhD students of the 2015/2016 academic year of the different faculties to the public. This phase was followed by the inaugural lecture presented by Prof Ngnotue of the Faculty of Sciences, Department of Earth Sciences on the Iron mineral and the signing of a convention with the Director General of Cameroon credit fund “Credit Foncier”, facilitating the modalities of the acquisition of lodging facilities for the University staff.
The address of the Vice Chancellor during the occasion was breath-taking as he emphasized that the University was realistic in all its expected goals. He stated that 109 PhD thesis were defended this year and reiterated that the university through its management was poised at effectively achieving security,infrastructural, social,academic,digital, financial,management,and heuristic governance during the previous academic year. He emploid staff and students not to relent in their efforts in moving the university forward through team spirit./
