UDs and US Embassy delegation in a working session
Dschang,UDs/SIC-06/03/25. Today, the 6th March 2025, the Fotso Victor Conference hall played host to a working session between the University of Dschang and a delegation from the United States Embassy in Cameroon. This working session was a platform to project the academic programs and research opportunities for students, lecturers scholars and professionals by US government to the University of Dschang.
In his opening remarks, Professor Guimdo Bernard Raymond, (VR-RECOME) representing the Rector, welcomed the American delegation and highlighted synoptic cooperation ties with the US and existing links with Buffalo and Montana Universities while lauding then visit of the US Ambassador on June 30th 2023. The Head of the US delegation, Ms. Gaina Dàvila, Director of Public Diplomacy at the US Embassy in Cameroon, highlighted the interest of the United States in the development of human capital in Cameroon and appreciates UDs prowess. “The US sees the importance of this university and shares the believe of transformation of universities,” she stated. Ms. Gaina Dàvila applauded the VREPTIC; Prof. Nadine Machikou Ngameni who is a product of such research programme and who is committed in mentoring others on how to go about it. Ms Davila presented 100 books to the UDs library to ensure research and intellectual exchange.
The meeting highlighted several programs of the United States Embassy intended for Cameroonian academics such as The Fulbright African research scholar program: Open to university lecturers’, Master’s and Doctorate students, as well as PhD holders, this program offers academic stays of 3 to 9 months in American universities. All fields of study are eligible.
• The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program: This program is aimed at university executives in management positions and with several years of experience, the study of the US institutes (SUSI) for scholars and The Fulbright programme for students. UDs through this working session is poised at demystifying and ensuring students value and harness this plethora of opportunities offered by the United states government in a bid to fostering research and development./
