Students enjoined to explore academic excellence
Dschang,SIC/UDs-01/11/16. The ceremony to launch the kick-off of academic activities of the annex of the Faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Sciences in Bafia held at the ceremonial ground in Bafia at 11.00 am on the 1st of November 2016.This solemn opening of the academic activities was marked by the presence of some key dignitaries from the Mbam and Inoubou and the University of Dschang. The ceremony which was spiced by a mix of artistic display by traditional dances saw the presentation of the first batch of freshmen of the annex, who through their representative thanked the Head of State for creating the annex and assured management that the students were poised to continue the spirit of collective dynamism and embrace excellence and hard work as prescribed by the Vice Chancellor. In his welcome speech, the Mayor of Bafia expressed satisfaction for the creation of the annex and assured the Vice Chancellor of the collaboration and support of the entire community to join in his vision of excellence. He described the town as a universal town and wished for the expansion of the annex to other disciplines of study in the future. He highlighted that Bafia goes into history for giving the University of Dschang its first ever annex of the Faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Sciences and encouraged the new batch of students to imbibe the spirit of professionalism and trust in agriculture as it was the key to sustainable development. Assuring them of a peaceful studying environment, he cautioned them to be steadfast in their studies.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Roger Tsafack Nanfosso in his launching speech expressed his profound gratitude to the elites of the community who joined with the university in transforming the youths. He stated that the creation of the annex by Ministerial text no 16-329/MINESUP of the 4th of May 2016 and the appointment of key management officials on the 12th of May 2016 was an indication of prompt support by the Head of State to foster academic prowess in the University of Dschang. The VC assured that in the coming days different office heads will be appointed to join in the proper management of the annex and stated that the launching was timely as programs at the annex where to follow the same rhythm as those in the Faculty. He enjoined all to follow in the vision of collective dynamism and reiterated that the university was the only institution that was found in the 6 out of the 10 regions of the national territory. He charged the students to defend quality of professionalism through their academic results. Prof Tsafack reiterated that the annex had a plurality of disciplines as compared to the antennae in Yaoundé and Ebolowa. The ceremony ended with the inauguration of a lecture hall and a lecture on descriptive statistics presented by the coordinator of the annex, Prof Oben Fitz.
This is the right step in the right direction as another batch of students join the band wagon of excellence of the University of Dschang in the annex to promote academic excellence.
All is set to kick start academic activities
Coordinator of Annex affirms
The coordinator of the Annex of the Faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Sciences reaffirmed that all was in place to start academic activities of the new intake of students. He stated this in a press interview after the official ceremony of the kick-off of academic activities of the annex. Prof Oben Fritz iterated that “all necessary measures for the commencement of academic activities have been put in place, the location for some lectures is undergoing some rehabilitation work and this translates the willingness of the community, the Mayor and elites to join in making it a reality.” The Vice Chancellor has provided the necessary personnel to pilot the affairs here and will have 8-9 hour of classes daily. We will also be having some lecturers from the University of Dschang who will be offering courses at the annex in both theoretical and practical session. For the mean time we are in collaboration with some companies around like SODECAO to support us in our practical work and strongly believe that in a couple of weeks we will develop our experimental farm. The work does not end in Bafia there will be field trip for the students throughout the country to better expose the students to the realities of the agronomic engineering and related expertise.
