UDs, Scientific resonation in Forest domain

Dr. Marie Louise AVANA bags a key post at AFFS

Dschang, UDs/SIC-29/10/18.Following a highly competitive interview for the post of a Senior Programme Officer  at the African Forest Forum Secretariat, Dr. Marie Louise AVANA TIENTCHEU of the Faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Sciences (FASA) in the Department of Forestry of the University of Dschang emerged as the successful candidate. The Forum provides independent analysis and advice to national, regional and international institutions and actors, on how economic, food security and environmental issues can be addressed through the sustainable management of forests and trees. Its vision is to stand out as « The leading forum that links and unites stakeholders in African forestry within and outside the continent » Ever since its creation it has been fulfilling its mission of ‘contributing to the improvement of the livelihoods of the people of Africa and the environment they live in through the sustainable management and use of tree and forest resources on the African continent”  This is especially with regards to adaptation and mitigation of climate change through sustainable management of the continent’s forest resources as well as trees outside forests ( http://www.afforum.org/About).  Dr Avana emerged successful after haven been judged as possessing the necessary competences for discharging these functions. AFFS as an institution understands the essence of collaboration, and therefore seeks such collaboration with highly professional institutions such as the forestry department of the University of Dschang to attain its objectives. Dr Avana, as senior program officer at the AFFS is charged not only to put her scientific and leadership skills at the service of the AFF, but also to serve as the face of UDs at the AFFS. Before picking up this position, she, in addition to her normal functions as a researcher/lecturer at the University of Dschang, held a leadership position as Head of Division for Teaching, and Academic staff . This Forum is an association of individuals with a commitment to sustainable management, wise use and conservation of Africa’s forest and tree resources for the socio-economic well-being of its peoples and for the stability and improvement of its environment and UDs through Dr Avana will  ensure this./VM
